  • Seifert's research says: The propellers and wings were set upright for takeoff and ascent. After reaching the desired height, they were adjusted to propel in the horizontal. The helicopter could fly as a hang glider.
  • Inventor identified by Lilienthal museum as "CROWELL" and inferred here to be Luther C. Crowell because of similarly-dated Patent US-1862-35437 and the claim that he had 280 patents.[1]
  • We don't know what country this is from but is probably the U.S.; we don't have evidence yet that Crowell patented elsewhere.
